Sport is essential for children’s physical growth and social and emotional development.
The MIS PE Team following the British National Curriculum ensure all students have access to many different sporting options.
MIS creates opportunities for students to experience a wide range of different sports. We cover volleyball, basketball, football, tennis, table tennis, golf, cross country running, athletics, handball, badminton, swimming and yoga during the academic year 2021-2022.
MIS's designed educational space motivates the students and integrates an exciting sports life. Our outstanding facilities include an in-door heated swimming pool, large sports hall, basketball courts, tennis court, multi fitness gym, dancing room and running track.
Early Years to Year 2 learn ball skills, sending & receiving, which will help build the foundation needed for their development in all school sport. All students in Years 3&4 will learn the basic skills needed in play small, sided games e.g. volley, dig and serve. Rules in sport and scoring systems are taught in Years 5&6 and students learn how to umpire and score their own matches.
Each sport will cover 4 weeks of lessons with many of the units building towards events such as the school cross country and sports day.
Volleyball will continue to develop the big ball skills of our students with working on hand eye co-ordination, timing, and how each passing technique is used to set up a winning point.
Basketball & football
Basketball and football will focus on teamwork, spatial awareness, manipulation of defenses through developing skills and making decisions under pressure.
Table tennis, tennis & badminton
Table tennis, tennis, and badminton will focus on plenty of game-based learning with focuses on executing winning shots.
Cross country is a new initiative we bring into the school this year with training developing stamina and strength, while also making the students aware of the relationship between stride frequency and stride length.
Handball will also be part of a new unit this year at MIS with this being a student led unit. The students will be first taught the game, split into small teams, and then across four weeks coach their own teams while playing and referring the games also.
We are also lucky to have an investment into golf at MIS with new driving range bays being built on the roof and the addition of screen golf within the school.
At the end of the sports unit, students participate and compete for their Clan. Sports day is a big day for MIS and the training for athletics with focus primarily on running and jumping techniques.
As well as an outstanding PE curriculum, the students participate in CCA sports, Clan sports, ISL and sports competitions which all improve their skills and fitness at the same time enriches the culture of sports at the campus.
CCA Sports are offered as part of the Co-Curricular Programme where a variety of activities are offered for learning, fun and enjoyment such as football, badminton, dodgeball, rugby, frisbee and many more.
