MIS inherits our Scottish traditions throughout the campus.  Arriving at the campus you will see our tartan carpeted staircase, Scottish thistles in Napier, Scottish Landscape photography adorns the walls.   Keeping in with tradition our girls and boys are proud to wear the Merchiston Tartan. In Scotland, families have their own tartans according to their family name which dates back to the 15th Century. Each tartan inherits a specific colour and weaving method which is registered at a special institution. 

Head of School, Dr Murray Tod who hails from Edinburgh in Scotland could use this tartan. Ms Sonia Buchan (maiden name Gordon) who hails from Aberdeenshire, Scotland has two tartans.  

Merchiston’s tartan was designed by Douglas Kinloch Anderson (of Kinloch Anderson) when his son John was a pupil in MCS. This tartan design incorporates the School's colours, which are red and blue.  MIS students wear the tartan with pride each day.  Our ladies wear the kilt and our boys don the tartan tie.

在曼校，很难不发现我们的英式基因。初抵校园，映入眼帘的便是那一块通往楼梯上的从爱丁堡带来的格纹地毯。Napier大厅的桌面的花瓶里插着苏格兰蓟、墙壁上有苏格兰高地的风景画。同样地，曼校的学生们也遵循了曼校传统，穿着曼校专属格纹元素的校服。在苏格兰，不同家族都会根据家族姓氏，设计家族专属格纹，这个传统可以追溯到15世纪。每种格纹传承了特定的颜色和编织方法，这种家族格纹还会在专门的机构注册登记。

 来自于爱丁堡的曼校校长Murray博士的家族格纹。来自苏格兰阿伯丁郡的曼校市场招生总监 Sonia Buchan 女士（婚前姓 Gordon）可以使用两个姓氏的格纹。

曼校格纹由著名服饰品牌Kinloch Anderson第五代总裁Douglas Kinloch Anderson设计，彼时他的孩子John正在曼校爱丁堡校区就读。他们为曼校设计的格纹红蓝两色，与曼校的LOGO色调一致。在曼校，女生们每天穿着曼校格纹短裙、男孩们系着曼校格纹领带，我们为曼校格纹和曼校校服感到自豪。
