Chris is an experienced and passionate educator who is dedicated to helping students realise their full potential. Born and raised in England, he completed his high school education in Staffordshire.
Chris graduated with a University of Oxford degree in Philosophy/Theology, demonstrating his intellectual curiosity and dedication to understanding the human experience. Following his graduation, Chris became a qualified youth worker. He organised after-school activities and facilitated confidence-building activity weekends. Chris' concern to encourage young people thrive and grow became evident during this period of his career.
Driven by his commitment to improving life chances for young people, Chris obtained a UK PGCE from Sheffield Hallam, attaining qualified teacher status. Over the course of 11 years teaching in England, he amassed extensive experience in delivering lessons in English, Philosophy, and Humanities. Chris taught students across various educational levels, including Key Stage 3, GCSE, and A-Levels. Additionally, he served as an examiner for Edexcel, gaining valuable insight into assessment processes. Chris consistently engaged in continuous professional development, staying up-to-date with the latest teaching practices to create a positive, caring, but challenging learning environment. He believes in fostering individualised instruction tailored to meet the specific needs of each student while cultivating their confidence in independent learning.
As a result of his curiosity in international language and communication, Chris pursued post-graduate studies in Applied Linguistics, with a particular focus on the global use of English. As a result, he later qualified as a CELTA-trained ESL teacher, expanding his expertise in teaching English as a Second Language. Chris' passion for international English, led to him taking positions in international schools in Beijing and Shanghai, specialising in both IGCSE and A-Level Language and Literature, Global Perspectives, and ESL classes. Prior to his current post at Merchiston, Chris worked at an international school in Bangkok, further enriching his experience in a global educational setting.
In his spare-time, enjoys nature and the outdoors with walks, reads plentiful non-fiction works, and finds relaxation in loud music.
