Originally from the American midwestern city of Columbus, Ohio, Renee began her teaching career working for the Upward Bound Program, helping children from low-income, minority families in urban cities become the first in their families to attend college. She then relocated to sunny Florida, working in rural public schools as an AP Language and Honors English teacher. Receiving the opportunity to join Beijing No. 4 High School in 2014, Renee decided to explore the world and never look back.
During the pandemic, an even greater adventure opened in Tajikistan, where Renee spent two years working to develop standards of education in Khujand before returning to China, this time in Hainan, reuniting with former Beijing colleagues while enjoying island life. Renee is thrilled at yet another opportunity to build an AP English program here at Merchiston alongside her longtime colleagues.
As a teacher, Renee is passionate about helping students to learn and succeed. She believes that classroom learning should be centered on student interests and needs. Students now have access to new technology that creates unlimited opportunities in their lives. The skills with which they navigate their future ultimately become the most important factor determining life success and fulfillment.
