Where does MIS come from?
Merchiston International School Shenzhen, is the first overseas campus of Merchiston Castle School, a top ranked independent school located in Edinburgh, Scotland UK.
How old is the school?
MIS opened its doors to students for the first time in August 2018, However, our sister school in Edinburgh, Scotland has a rich history of over 188 years!
What is the curriculum?
British National Curriculum with additional access to Mandarin language as part of the core learning. Chinese culture will be taught through the Art, Music and Performance Arts programme. IGCSEs and A Levels.
How big are the classes?
Maximum class size 22 students, with 16 for our Early Years and A Level classes.
Where are our teachers from?
MIS hires only highly qualified, motivated and experienced staff who are able to develop young minds and help ensure our students become skilled and creative thinkers. The majority of our teachers are from the UK, with a few specialist teachers from other countries and a strong Chinese team teaching Mandarin.

How will my child continue Chinese learning?
Juniors students learn mandarin every day and in the Seniors all students learn Mandarin in Years 7 - 9, the majority of learners will undertake further Mandarin studies in Years l O - l l with a variety of qualifications on offer to support learners from beginners through to native speakers. Mandarin will also be available for those wishing to study further at A level.
What are the benefits of boarding?
Boarding develops a cohesive blend of normal school learning with extra time available for enrichment activities. A full programme is developed for students to make sure their time is productive and enjoyable. A close and caring community is at the core of the boarding experience where students and staff work together to develop independence and resilience in our learners.
What is the benefit of following the British Curriculum?
The British curriculum has been developed carefully to support all learners and to provide access pathways to the very best UK universities. Merchiston has adapted the UK curriculum to offer even greater challenge and depth to our learners, providing a sound basis for application to top universities all over the world.
Do you accept all passport holders?
MIS is licensed as an International school under the Ministry of Education and can only accept qualified students who hold a foreign passport/identification. For any questions on this policy, please submit your family's document copies to our admissions team for consideration.
