The Board is supported by the Executive Leadership Team. The delivery of first-class learning experiences and pastoral care to MIS students is fully supported by our experienced members from the academic and business leadership teams.
Head of Juniors
Nationality: Britaish
Sophie took her degree in Greek and Roman Studies at the University of Birmingham before moving to the University of Exeter where she completed her Primary PGCE, specialising in the Early Years. After teaching in England, her first international teaching job was at the British International School of Cairo, after which she returned to the UK to become Head of the Early Years Foundation Stage at Sarum Hall School. She returned overseas as Head of Early Years at Harrow, Beijing, where she gained invaluable experience as a leader. Sophie offers a range of different extra-curricular activities which reflects her interests in sports, animal welfare and child development. In her own time, she is an avid reader and enjoys voluntary work, involving a number of UK-based charities, including Barnardo’s. Sophie is married, with a daughter and a son.
Head of Seniors
Nationality: British
Daniel completed his first degree and PGCE courses in Mathematics at Birmingham University, with further research in the Teaching and Learning of Algebra. His UK career involved promotion to a series of leadership roles, included an Assistant Headship at Southfield Technology College and Workington Sixth Form College. Daniel taught Mathematics at Kellett School in Hong Kong, prior to which he was Assistant Head teacher responsible for Data and Organisation at Dulwich College, Beijing, where he was also lead teacher for Higher Mathematics. Daniel is an active member of Mensa and enjoys sharing the many resources that this provides with his students. Daniel can therefore offer a wide range of challenging extra-curricular activities, including Logic & Spatial Reasoning, Cosmology and Higher Order Problem Solving. Daniel enjoys taking his family anywhere in the world where life is simple and the trappings of modern society are not close to hand. His own interests include cosmology, culture, travel, geology and cricket. Daniel is married to Gabriella, a piano teacher and they have five sons, Dominic, Patrick, Xavier, Hektor and Ryker.
Head of Boarding & Pastoral Care
Resident House Tutor (Rogerson)
Nationality: British
Simon graduated from the University of Bristol with a degree in Civil Engineering before taking his PGCE at St Mary’s University, Twickenham. In his career, Simon has worked at several independent schools in the UK and has gained experience in both the academic and pastoral areas of school life having been a Head of Physics and Science, Head of Sixth Form and most recently Housemaster of a large boarding house at Taunton School in Somerset. Simon has a passion for boarding life and is keen to develop this in his role at MIS by building a happy and safe environment in which the boarders can flourish and grow to be independent and confident learners and citizens. Outside his work Simon is a keen traveller and has taken many expeditions across SE Asia. He also enjoys skiing and is always eager to experiment with new cooking. His most recent distraction is the guitar which he has taught himself to play.
Director of Admissions, Communication & Marketing

Sonia was born, raised and educated in Scotland. She moved to China in 2008 with her family and has worked and lived in Asia for the majority of her working career in Beijing, Singapore and Shenzhen. Sonia is one of the founding members of the MIS family having joined the project when the school was still in the construction stage. Sonia is married to Alex and they have two children, Joseph who is a pupil at Merchiston Castle School and Lili Mei who studies in MIS . Sonia is a fluent Chinese speaker and calls China her home and welcomes all families to MIS.
Director of Business
Nationality: British
Simon arrived in Shenzhen in January of 2019 having spent the previous nine years in similar roles in Qatar and Romania. With an MBA from Aston University, Simon spent twenty years working on the commercial side of the media industry in London. In his spare time Simon enjoys reading, the cinema, golf, music and supporting his beloved Aston Villa Football Club. His partner is a criminal lawyer, and they have two grown-up children forging careers in the police and in medicine.

Resident House Tutor (Rogerson)
Dorothy joined MIS in early 2018 after working in a state-owned group for more than 10 years. Having worked in Africa and South East Asia, Dorothy decided to devote her time to a more meaningful area, namely education. Graduating from Sun Yat-Sen University in 2007 she majored in service marketing and tourism management. Dorothy's career has focused on Human Resources, Operations, Strategy and Investment Analysis.Dorothy is one of the founding members of the MIS family having joined the project when the school was still in the construction stage. Dorothy enjoys the multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment within MIS.
