Mr. Tippie grew up in Northern Virginia in suburban Stafford County. After high school he attended Virginia Commonwealth University in the historic capitol Richmond Virginia, where he studied physics and math. He went on to graduate school at the University of South Carolina, however upon realizing academia wasn’t for him, he left and pursued other interests.
Seeking adventure, Mr. Tippie left the United States and took a job teaching in Zhejiang, Shaoxing. There he taught math, physics, history and really discovered his passion for teaching. After a couple of years he became the foreign vice principal and focused on curriculum development. Following that he moved to Jiangsu, Changzhou where he gained experience teaching AP Calculus and Statistics in a public high school.
As a teacher, Mr. Tippie enjoys providing students opportunities to try new things and exposing them to new ideas and ways of thinking. He is a fervent believer that the learning environment should be a positive place, that while learning can be hard it shouldn’t be miserable, and that fostering curiosity and imagination makes for a much more interesting life.
When not working, Mr. Tippie likes to travel (30+ countries), read , play sports and go climbing.
