Mark Bridgeman
Deputy Head & Head of Lower Secondary

Born and raised in England, Mark completed his primary and secondary education in Wiltshire, before attending the University of Glamorgan to study for a degree in Business Studies. After a period of employment in banking and finance, Mark transitioned into teaching. In the following years he worked as a teacher, teacher trainer, resource centre manager and IELTS examiner in China, South Korea and Turkey.

Following the completion of a Masters degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, Mark gained further experience working at international schools offering the Cambridge curriculum where he taught IGCSE and A Level English Language and Business Studies in Tanzania and China. At the same time, he is also an AS & A-level English examiner.

As an educator, Mark is focused on empowering students to take control of their own learning experience. He supports students in developing the skills, competencies and confidence necessary to embrace collaboration and experimentation in the process of establishing their own talents and achieving academic excellence.

In addition to developing his teaching expertise, in the last decade Mark has worked in senior leadership positions at international schools as Academic Coordinator, Academic Principal, Deputy Principal and his current role as Head of Seniors at Merchiston. To embed increased performance as an educational leader he is currently undertaking the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH).

Furthermore, Mark is also a Cambridge Teacher Trainer and an Evaluator for the Council of International Schools (CIS). Both roles allow him the opportunity to work closely with teachers and school leaders around the world to provide quality teaching and learning experiences for both students and teachers.

When not engaged in educational issues, Mark likes to travel (83 countries and counting…), cook and go on long walks with his wife and dog, Nala.
