Exceptional Achievements on Recent Academic Competition

In the recently concluded 2024-2025 international academic competition season, our MIS's Royal Mile Academy students once again showcased remarkable academic prowess, securing top honors across multiple prestigious global competitions:

● UK Chemistry Olympiad (UKChO): 2 Gold Medals

● British Physics Olympiad (BPhO): 1 Top Gold Medal (Global Top 2%), 2 Gold Medals

●British Physics Challenge (IPC & SPC): 7 Gold Medals, maintaining an impressive 100% gold medal rate

● British Biology Olympiad (BBO): 2 Silver Medals

● Intermediate Biology Olympiad (IBO): 2 Gold Medals

● Australian Science Olympiad (ASOB): 2 First Prizes

● UK Senior Mathematical Challenge (SMC): 13 Gold Medals

● British Mathematical Olympiad (BMO): 1 Bronze Medal, 3 Distinctions

● American Mathematics Competition (AMC): 3 Distinctions, 9 students advancing to AIME

● Euclid Mathematics Contest: 4 Distinctions

These outstanding results not only demonstrate the academy's strength in traditional STEM fields but also highlight its breakthroughs in economics and social sciences. Particularly noteworthy is our student Hardy Jiang's near-perfect performance in the BPhO, earning him a Top Gold Medal—a testament to his second-year undergraduate-level in physics.

Disassembling & Reassembling Mechanical Watches

Hardy’s passion for physics has become legendary at the RM academy. His pure love for the subject shows the essence of scientific spirit. During afternoon CCA (Co-curricular Activities), you’ll often find him meticulously disassembling mechanical watches with a screwdriver, studying gear interactions to explore angular momentum conservation.

His curiosity extends beyond the classroom—when nuclear physics was discussed, he questioned, "How do spacecraft nuclear batteries sustain power in outer space?" While learning electromagnetism, he had already self-studied university-level Electrodynamics, applying Maxwell's equations to analyze wireless charging.

The most touching moment came last month when, despite a fractured toe, Hardy came to the physics office daily in a wheelchair to discuss problems with his teacher. During his recovery, the office became his "second ward." This relentless pursuit of knowledge ultimately earned him a BPhO Top Gold Medal. As his mentor Yoyo remarked: "To Hardy, everything—from the gears of a watch to the stars in the cosmos—is a physics puzzle waiting to be solved. This ability to connect life with science is the most precious quality of a future scientist."

BPhO – The "Golden Physics Ticket" 

to the World’s Top Universities

As admissions to elite universities grow increasingly competitive, academic excellence alone is no longer enough—how can students prove their potential beyond standardized curricula? The British Physics Olympiad (BPhO) is one such benchmark, highly regarded by Oxford, Cambridge, MIT, and other top institutions. It tests not only students' understanding of physics but also their ability to think and solve problems at a university level.

Statistics show that most Cambridge physics admits hold BPhO awards, and Oxford interviewers frequently use BPhO problems as discussion starters. For students aspiring to study physics at Oxbridge, this competition has become an "unofficial prerequisite."

Competitions are not an additional burden, but a natural extension of academic capabilities. At Royal Mile Academy, competition preparation is seamlessly integrated into the A-Level physics curriculum—AS-level mechanics aligns with BPhO Round 1 key topics, while A2-level thermodynamics experiments use past competition questions. The academy’s exclusive "Physics Olympiad Lab" allows students to recreate classic BPhO experiments. Here, training is a collaborative effort, supported by Oxbridge mentors, past winners, and tailored resources—transforming competition preparation into a guided pathway to success.

From Medals to Offers: 

Remarkable Admissions Achievements

At Royal Mile Academy, competition accolades and academic excellence leads to outstanding university placements. The  2023-2024 Year's graduating class achieved a near-perfect record—100% received offers from UK G5 universities and Hong Kong’s top three universities. In 2024-2025, besides maintaining a 100% G5 acceptance rate, 50% of applicants received Oxbridge interview invitations, with a 25% offer rate. Notably, the academy secured MIS’s first-ever Cambridge Mathematics offer.
