Trent was born in Sydney, Australia, and studied at the University of Sydney, where he specialised in the Humanities, with a focus on History and Geography. He began his career teaching in secondary schools across Australia, where he spent 15 years working with students from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, and socio-economic contexts. He later moved into international education, teaching in Bahrain for two years before relocating to China in 2021. Since then, he has worked in international schools in Guangzhou, and has held a number of leadership roles including Head of Humanities, Pastoral Leader, and Teacher Mentor.

Trent believes in an education that combines strong academic standards with warmth, encouragement, and genuine human connection. He is passionate about helping young people grow in confidence, character, and independence, while also supporting teachers to develop their practice in a calm and purposeful way.

Outside school, Trent enjoys fitness and CrossFit, and has also been involved in volunteer and charity work in a range of settings. He is excited to be joining Merchiston and looks forward to contributing to the life of the school community.
