Education Background: Master of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language
Yiqing, born in Guangdong, earned her Bachelor’s degree from Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai, and her Master’s degree from Macau University of Science and Technology. During her postgraduate studies, she served as a Chinese teacher for the online Chinese programme at the University of the Aegean (Greece) and as curriculum team leader for a Chinese programme in Nepal, achieving a 100% pass rate in HSK1 for complete beginners in both projects.
After obtaining her Master’s degree, Yiqing joined the joint programme of the Centre for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) and the British Council (BC). She served as the whole-school Chinese teacher at Harris Primary Academy Beckenham Green in London, responsible for teaching Year Reception to Year 6 and running two after-school calligraphy clubs. Yiqing guided students through the YCT exams, achieving a 100% pass rate in YCT2. In addition to teaching language skills, Yiqing places strong emphasis on promoting Chinese language and culture overseas and also led a KS1 team to win the Most Creative Group Award in the UK regional “Chinese Bridge” competition.
Yiqing’s teaching philosophy is fun with structure, ensuring lessons are engaging for students of all ages while maintaining clear classroom management and knowledge frameworks. She pays close attention to the language development of second-language learners and always teaches with compassion, patience and attentiveness.
In addition to her teaching, Yiqing enjoys calligraphy, playing the pipa and choir singing. She specializes in regular and running script in calligraphy and has obtained Level 6 certification in pipa from the Central Conservatory of Music. She was also a soprano member of a West End Musical Choir in London, participating in multiple performances and gaining extensive stage and teamwork experience.
