Rory Murphy
Teacher of PE

Degree: Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Health Science from York University; Bachelor of Education from the University of Ottawa.

Rory completed his Kinesiology and Health Science degree in Toronto before gaining his Bachelor of Education at the University of Ottawa. He taught in the UK and China for a decade, working across primary and secondary levels, before moving to Malaysia. While he values the academic rigour of Physical Education, he is a firm believer that fun and engagement are the true drivers of lifelong learning. He sees his role as helping students find their own passions in sport, ensuring they grow into well-rounded, active individuals.

During his time in Shanghai, Rory developed a successful, competitive football program for students ranging from ages 9 to 18. By working across various age groups, he helped build one of the most successful football programs within the Shanghai Schools Sports Association (SSSA). In his past leadership roles, he has also been committed to leading GCSE and A-Level PE, helping students navigate the transition from the field to the classroom.

As a Certified Exercise Physiologist, physical activity and exercise are central to Rory’s own life; he particularly enjoys the biomechanics and high-performance side of sport. Outside of the gym and the pitch, he enjoys staying active, keeping up with cinema and television, and has a keen interest in personal finance. Most of his free time is spent with his wife and their dog.
