Duncan is a Merchistonian who attended the MCS between 1972 and 1976.
Following Merchiston he went to the University of Leeds and studied Biochemistry and Microbiology before moving onto the University of Cambridge where he completed a PhD in Biochemistry. Whilst at Cambridge he co-founded a molecular diagnostics company which led to a 20 year career in capital markets where he specialised in healthcare companies at the US investment bank Morgan Stanley. Since leaving Morgan Stanley in 2006 he has worked in private equity, backing various healthcare companies in South East Asia as well as in the UK. He is currently Chairman of Lamellar Biomedical which is a Scottish biomedical enterprise based near Glasgow.
