Huw joined Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh as the headmaster in September 2025.
A highly experienced educator, Huw began his teaching career at St Edward’s School, Oxford, where he served as Head of Department before moving to St John’s School, Leatherhead, where he held the dual roles of Boarding Housemaster and Head of Boarding. He was appointed Deputy Head at Warminster in 2019. He spent the six years from 2019 playing a pivotal role in the school’s strategic development, pastoral care and day-to-day leadership.
Huw holds a Master’s degree in Education from St Edmund’s College, Cambridge. His research focused on how schools can best nurture resilience in young people—an area that continues to shape his educational philosophy.
He is known for his collaborative approach to leadership and his belief that strong relationships lie at the heart of any successful school.
Alongside his professional background, Huw represented Wales in international hockey for more than a decade, including at two Commonwealth Games, a formative experience that helped shape his belief in the power of consistency, teamwork and resilience. While no longer central to his day-to-day, his sporting background has influenced his outlook on education and personal growth.
