Dear Parents,

Over Term 1 in the English Department, we have introduced our new KS3 curriculum, deriving from Cambridge's Internationally constructed 'Lower Secondary' and 'Global English' curriculums for our 1st and 2nd language streams.

KS4 and KS5 have begun, and continued with, their IGCSE and A-Level courses through the Literature and Language streams. With Students working through a combination of Coursework Assignments, Literature study and Exam Preparation, Years 10 - 13 are actively engaged with working toward their IGCSE exams.

As MIS strives to push our Senior subjects ever further, the English Department have been ensuring that the development of our students has a strong sense of accountability behind our teaching practice. This has resulted in a clearly constructed long-term plan, factoring in the use of STAR Reader and Cambridge’s KS3 End of Unit tests. As well as these, this year at MIS, we have introduced Formative Monthly Assessments, and End of Term Tests across all year groups.

Our formative assessments provide students with qualitative experiences, to reflect their developing abilities through their skills of Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening, Grammar and Spelling. The aim is provide students with monthly opportunities to reflect their abilities, and to collect that information, in the hope of seeing change and growth in their learning.

With Whole-Senior End of Term tests, this helps to ready our younger students in Years 7, 8 and 9, for the exam experience that begins in Year 10. Exam skills and etiquette are extremely important, especially in the field of international education, with there being such a varying range of subjects and exams to facilitate. With our students being introduced to this idea throughout the year, we are ensuring our IGCSE, and A-Level exams are carried out professionally and expertly, by both Staff and Students.

In Term 2, the English Department continues to reflect this formatting of Monthly Assessments, End of Unit tests and works toward End of Term Test. Term 2 will have years 11 – 13 carrying out their End of Term tests, whilst Term 3 will focus on Years 7 – 10 only.

As Term 2 moves swiftly and brings us into the final term, we are keeping a close eye on the development of our students through a growing reading culture. We aim to utilize STAR READER, and a cross-curricular reading program, to ensure that our students’ reading ability is ever-growing.

By working closely with the Juniors Department and Parents, we aim to carry out English Langauge specific workshops, helping to educate and inform parents of some of the work we are doing. With the hope of learning some new techniques and programs, such as ‘PM Benchmarking’, we hope to instill the Junior’s Department tools and resources within our curriculum, to aid our students even further.

Term 2 will see a continuation of Term 1’s hard work and efforts, whilst also beginning to develop some ideas to further deepen and root our students’ growth in their English learning. One of these ideas will be to look at the link between technology and our in-class learning. Having moved out of the period of online learning, we wish to return to a more hands-on approach with our students’ learning. This will enable us to look at planning our lessons and resources more effectively, in hopes of engaging our students’ reading and speaking abilities much more. By limiting the use of technology in the classroom, and reverting to the use of our Library, Cambridge’s Lower Secondary Learners and Workbooks, we hope to provide students with a range of different materials and resources to grow their critical thinking skills and proactivity toward their learning.

在曼校英语教学组的第一学期,我们为KS3(国际初中)阶段的孩子引进了全新的英语课程体系。该课程体系以剑桥国际英语认可的“初中”和“全球英语”课程为基础。



KS4和KS5则分别学习着IGCSE和A-Level的文学和语言课程。通过课程作业、文学研究和考前准备等形式,10年级至13年级的学生正积极参与准备IGCSE考试。



为了确保学生们的学术取得卓越,英语教学组制定了一项长期且详细的计划,其中包括STAR Reader的使用和剑桥KS3单元测试。



此外,我们今年还为所有年级的学生引入了形成性月度评估和全年级期末测试。这些评估为学生提供定性测验,以反映他们在阅读、写作、口语、听力、语法和拼写等方面的进步,目的是为学生提供每月评估其能力并跟踪其成长的机会,希望看到他们学习中的变化和成长。



高中部的期末测试,将有助于帮助我们789年级的学生,为升入10年级开始的考试做好准备。考试技巧和礼仪非常重要,特别是在国际教育领域,因为有各种各样的科目和考试可供选择。随着我们的学生对此的深入理解,我们确保我们的IGCSE和A-Level考试将高效规范地开展。



在第二学期,英语部门将继续反映这种格式的月度评估、单元测试,并高效高质量完成期末测试。第二学期将安排11年级至13年级进行期末测试,而第三学期将针对7年级至10年级。


我们即将迎来本学年最后一个学期,通过不断增长的知识积累,希望利用STAR READER和跨学科阅读计划,促进我们学生的阅读能力不断增长。



通过与初中部和家长的密切合作,我们还计划举行英语语言专题研讨会,以此告知家长我们正在进行的一些工作。希望学到一些新的技巧和程序,比如“PM Benchmarking”基准考试,我们希望将初中部的工具和资源融入我们的课程中,以进一步帮助我们的学生。


第二学期将延续第一学期的工作干劲,同时开始制定一些深化和沉淀学生英语水平的想法,其中之一是研究技术与课堂学习之间的联系。走出线上学习后,我们希望返回更加实际的学习方式,这将使我们更加高效地备课,有效地提升学生的阅读和口语能力。通过在课堂中限制技术的使用,并恢复对图书馆、剑桥初中学习者和工作手册的使用,我们希望为学生提供各种不同的资源,以培养他们的思辨能力和对学习的主动性。
