In 2024, Shenzhen and Edinburgh celebrate the fifth anniversary of their sister city relationship. On May 22nd, Edinburgh's Lord Provost Robert Aldridge led a delegation to visit Shenzhen, acknowledging the positive progress in pragmatic cooperation between the two cities. He expressed a desire to strengthen collaborations in trade, culture, education, and other fields to create a brighter future together.

The Lord Provost of Edinburgh congratulated MIS on its successful establishment in China. He expressed his heartfelt hope that MIS, as a link of friendly cooperation between Shenzhen and Edinburgh, would tightly connect the two cities. Through MIS, a global bridge would be built for students in China to enter world-class universities.

Despite the vast distance, the two cities have achieved significant cooperation in various fields since their partnership began. As a key project of cultural and educational exchange between Edinburgh and Shenzhen, MIS (Merchiston International School), with its nearly 200-year history, established its Shenzhen campus in 2018. It has since become an essential platform for science and education cooperation and a vital link for cultural exchange between the two cities. MIS not only injected fresh vitality into the international education sector in the Greater Bay Area but also made significant contributions to the construction of the region's international education demonstration zone.

Nurtured by Shenzhen's fertile educational environment, MIS has grown robustly, providing a powerful support system for students to reach the global stage. Students have not only achieved outstanding academic results, gaining offers from top international universities, but also excelled in arts, sports, and technology.

To date, MIS has guided five cohorts of graduates, achieving a 100% acceptance rate into the world's top 100 universities. This success distinguishes MIS as a leader among international schools in the Greater Bay Area. The school’s excellent performance is a tribute to the fifth anniversary of the "Shenzhen&Edinburgh" partnership.

The admission statistics reveal that nearly 100 graduates have received 35 offers from G5 universities, including 6 from Imperial College London, 28 from University College London, and 1 from the London School of Economics. Additionally, offers were received from the University of Hong Kong (3), Tsinghua University (1), University of California, Santa Barbara (1), University of Manchester (14), and University of the Arts London (7).

What is more gratifying than the students' pursuit of academic excellence is MIS's ability to awaken each student's passion, allowing them to flourish and follow their hearts.

Adhering to the philosophy of "academic excellence with heartfelt warmth," MIS enables students to excel academically while finding personal paths that suit their passions. This is evident in the diverse university majors chosen by graduates over the past five years.

Graduates have pursued a wide range of academic disciplines, including finance, biochemistry, astrophysics, and global humanitarian studies. In the arts, students have explored fields such as interior design and illustration, demonstrating broad interests and excellent overall qualities. Each year, several students with a passion for music or arts have gone on to prestigious institutions like the University of the Arts London to chase their dreams.

In 2022, Marion, who had taught at the Edinburgh campus of MIS for nearly 40 years, moved to China at the age of over seventy to strengthen the link between the Edinburgh and Shenzhen campuses and to serve as a cultural ambassador for international education. 

Earlier this year, in recognition of her contributions to the development of international education exchange, Shenzhen awarded Principal Marion the title of "Shenzhen Global Communication Ambassador."

As a city ambassador, Principal Marion will share her stories with Shenzhen at various city promotion and cultural exchange events, as well as on social media platforms at home and abroad. She will convey Shenzhen's image as a diverse, innovative, open, and inclusive city, telling the story of Shenzhen, the city of miracles, innovation, and the future.

As cultural exchanges between Shenzhen and Edinburgh deepen and cooperation in fields such as culture and education strengthens, the friendship between the cities continues to grow. In the future, MIS will introduce more high-quality international education resources, promoting the high-quality development of education in the Greater Bay Area. This will also witness more outstanding students achieving their dreams, shining brightly with love and hope.

2022年，在英国爱丁堡曼校执教近40载，年逾七旬的Marion女士，为了当好国际教育传播的文化使者，加强爱丁堡母校与深圳曼校之间的链接，只身远渡重洋来华任教，撒播国际教育的种子。

今年年初，为了肯定深圳曼校Marion校长为推动国际教育交流发展所做出的贡献，深圳向其颁发了“深圳全球传播使者”的荣誉称号。

作为城市推荐官，Marion校长将在各类城市形象推广和文化交流活动中、海内外社交媒体平台上，分享她与深圳的故事，向世界传递多元创新、开放包容的深圳形象，讲述奇迹之城、创新之城、未来之城的深圳故事。

随着深圳与爱丁堡的两地文化不断地交融，文化教育等领域的合作不断地深化，城市友谊不断地升温，未来，深圳曼校也将引入更多的优质国际教育资源，推动大湾区教育事业高质量发展。同时也将见证更多的优秀学子，满载一船星辉，抵达梦想的彼岸，成为“心中有爱，眼中有光”的自己！
