End of term 1 Summary

To all of our friends and family members that always care about and show love towards MIS, we sincerely wish you Merry Christmas!

As we come to the close of a vibrant and successful Term 1, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the achievements, milestones, and community spirit that have defined the start of this academic year at Merchiston International School (MIS).

It has been an exceptional term, with our students embracing the challenges of their academic work, extracurricular activities, and personal growth. We have seen tremendous enthusiasm in our classrooms from Early Years to Year 13, with students exploring new ideas, pushing boundaries, and achieving great results. Our dedicated teaching staff has worked tirelessly to provide engaging lessons and a supportive learning environment for all students.

One of the highlights of this term has been welcoming our amazing new staff to the MIS family. Their seamless integration into our team and the collaborative spirit they have shown with our existing staff have enriched our school community immensely. Together, they have created a dynamic environment that inspires our students to thrive.

This term also featured the exciting Key Stage 3 Hiking Challenge Week, where our students demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and leadership in a beautiful outdoor setting.

We have hosted a range of community events, including the glorious Winter Showcase/Christmas Market, that brought students, staff, and parents together to celebrate our shared values and achievements. Our extracurricular programmes continue to flourish, offering students opportunities to develop their talents, pursue their passions and broaden their horizons.

In addition, we had the privilege of hosting a Council of International Schools (CIS) preparatory visit, further solidifying our commitment to providing a world-class education that aligns with international standards. 

Our Outreach and fundraising initiatives have showcased the generosity and compassion of our community, with students actively contributing to meaningful causes that embody our values.

Meanwhile, the excellent work being done at our other campus in Qianhai deserves special recognition. Their dedication to nurturing students’ potential and fostering a strong sense of community is inspiring and integral to the broader MIS vision.

Our longstanding commitment to academic excellence on the international stage has resulted in MIS winning awards this year at both the Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel Outstanding Learner Award ceremonies, multiple Oxbridge interviews, and students winning gold and silver medals at the World Scholars Cup final at Yale University. All of these achievements are a testament to the ability of our exceptional students and the dedication of our amazing teachers in supporting and guiding them.

Finally, I am so proud to see so many of our students stepping into leadership roles, taking ownership of their learning and development, and supporting our UN SDG, Green Campus, and Outreach initiatives. Their determination to make a positive impact on the world is truly inspiring.

The festive season is upon us, and the holiday break provides a perfect opportunity to rest, recharge, and reflect on the accomplishments of the past few months. As we look ahead to the new year, we are excited about the opportunities that Term 2 will bring. Our commitment to providing an outstanding, holistic education will continue, as will our focus on nurturing the values of leadership, responsibility, and kindness.

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to our wonderful students, parents, and staff for making Term 1 such a memorable and successful one. Their support and collaboration are key to everything we do here at Merchiston.
