Dear MIS Parents, Colleagues and Students,
As we enter the Year of the Tiger, I wanted to write to wish everyone connected with MIS a very happy and prosperous Chinese New Year! I know that the Tiger is associated with power, courage and dominance, and these are noble virtues that I hope can bring great positivity to the whole Merchiston community in 2022.
It has been, of course, a very challenging few weeks since we returned for Term 2 – striving to comply with all the regulations needed to keep the school operational whilst also prioritising the importance of our teaching & learning provision. Nevertheless, the MIS community has rallied magnificently and we should be proud of our collective efforts. As a Head, especially in these times, I am a firm believer in the importance of ‘resilience’ and MIS has illustrated this perfectly over recent weeks. I hope that this is also a value that chimes completely with the Year of the Tiger!
I can only marvel at the wonderful elements, and history, of all themes linked to the Chinese New Year celebration. Indeed, Schools are always enhanced by a firm focus on important core values and what they really mean to the fabric of our society. At MIS we spend a great deal of time, in Juniors and Seniors, in reinforcing our value statements and encouraging our students to espouse the virtues of real tolerance, respect and kindness to others. We are an international school, wedded to the very best of Chinese and British culture, and we should perpetually aim to embrace an inclusive philosophy. I am hopeful that all these worthy aims will also find a true home in the Year of the Tiger and that 2022 brings everyone a much better future.
