Students have actively participated in online learning. To the surprise and delight of teachers, the Early Years and Year 1 students who didn’t need to attend also participated in online courses.

Students learned the common English expressions of various fruits and vegetables, use of tenses, recognition of different graphics, sequencing of numbers, and the fun challenge that combines color and mathematical calculation.

In addition to academics, Ms. Neil, Head of Juniors, also taught the students how to express properly and clearly what they had learnt, and what they could achieve. Parents can ask children what they have learnt, and what obstacles they have encountered in learning in the same way.

What is a K S U?
At MIS Juniors, we use the following terminology to explain the lesson's learning objective and outcome:

K (Knowledge) - "I know..."
S (Skills) - "I can..."
U (Understanding) - "I understand..."

Our students are encouraged to reflect and make a self-assessment against each lesson's K S U using a traffic light system:

Green - "I can do this!"
Yellow - "I'm getting there"
Red - "I need help"

This process ensures that our students are actively involved in their learning and that our teachers are providing the appropriate level of challenge and support in each lesson.

Parents can support at home, during online learning, by discussing the K S U with your child, asking him/her to share their reflections about their learning with you and reminding them to complete the traffic light system at the top of their worksheet.

Some useful questions that parents can ask are:

-What skill(s) have you practised in this lesson?
-What do you now understand about....?
-What new knowledge have you learnt in this lesson?
-How do you know that you are a green/yellow/red learner today?

The class teachers have nominated some students that have been consistently Ay Ready, Ay Respectful and Ay Safe during their online lessons this week:

Early Years: Yiyi
Y1BWI - Emilia & Anna
Y2LCH - Mia
Y3DMC - Alice
Y4GAL - Isla
Y5PMC - Tidus
Y5MJA - Albert, Tristan, Chloe & Grace
Y6ABR - Chloe
Y6AES - Junlan

Online Sports

MIS teachers organized online PE classes to ensure that physical exercise was not left behind besides academics. The theme of sports this week was yoga. Andrew, PE Teacher, guided students to learn and practice following the online classes. And the online classes were followed by live Q&A where the teacher briefly sorted out difficult and key points for children and assigned targeted exercises.

Ms. Sabrina Neil, Head of Juniors, provided detailed guidance for parents to get their children moving.

Parent Forum

Recently MIS has held two online parent forums, where Mr. Adam Harbinson, Deputy Head of Academic, introduced the Assessment and Homework at MIS in detail, and answered all parents’ questions carefully after the presentation. The forum video can also be played back for parents who were unable to attend.

In another online parent forum, Adam introduced three aspects. The first point is the education system of MIS to cultivate children's communication and teamwork skills, thereby improving their leadership and creative problem-solving and critical thinking skills, so as to finally prepare the children to apply to the ideal university.

The second point is learning visualization. In the class of MIS, we not only pay attention to students’ problem-solving ability, but also want to understand their thinking process and let them explain clearly, so that children can gain a better learning ability in this process.

The last point is the student's participation in learning. In the classroom, various abilities can be exercised, such as communication and collaboration, writing ability and improving English proficiency.
