MIS Juniors Art Show

The halls of our school came alive with color, music, and boundless creativity during our recent Juniors Art Show—a spectacular event that drew crowds of excited parents and visitors. From our youngest artists in Early Years to our budding visionaries in Year 6, every student showcased their incredible work, proving how art connects to their classroom learning in the most beautiful ways.

Connecting Art to Learning

Parents were thrilled to see how art reinforces classroom themes—whether through Year 3’s study of Island Life and coral reefs, Year 4’s Temples, Tombs & Treasures, or Year 6’s Moving People community focused artwork. Teachers were on hand to discuss how these projects develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and cultural awareness.

An Interactive Art Adventure

Parents, teachers, and visitors were treated to an immersive experience, witnessing firsthand how art connects to classroom learning across every year group. From the moment guests arrived, they were invited to engage, explore, and create alongside their children. Each year group transformed their exhibition space into an interactive art experience, allowing parents to step into their child’s creative world:

An Interactive Art Journey Through the Years:

Early Years

Wiggly Lines & Farm Discoveries

Our littlest artists proudly displayed their explorations of lines, shapes, and colors—including their collaborative Larry the Line snake project!

Parents loved seeing how their children created textured corn art and helped "raise a barn" in a single day, just like the Amish community they studied.

EY

The ‘farm’ theme of the EY's art exhibition was inspired by a fun-field trip to the farm, where the children picked fresh vegetables and radishes and fed the cows.

Upon returning to school, the children created vivid farm animal-themed artworks: imitating the milking process with paper boxes, observing plant seeds, making paper farms and so on. The children also made a beautifully illustrated display board.

Year 1

Edible Art & Masterpiece Portraits

Year 1’s We Are What We Eat theme came to life with watercolor food plates and mixed media cookies that explored warm and cool colors.

They spent “A Day in the Life” of different artists, studying art history. Creating Da Vinci self-portraits, Mondrian lanterns and Monet water lilies.

Year 2

Toymakers & Checkerboard Challenges

Inspired by The Magic Toymaker, students crafted paper animal toys using folding and cutting techniques.

Then wove their own checkerboard games, many parents stopping to play a round or two!

Year 3

A Glowing, Recycled Coral Reef

Linking to their Island Life topic, Year 3’s eco-friendly reef—made from plastic bottles, egg cartons, and neon paint—dazzled visitors.

The added Maori and Samoan patterned jellyfish showed how art bridges cultures.

Year 4

Greek Vases & Rainforest Adventures

From amphorae designs (showing what they value most) to 3D rainforest landscapes, Year 4’s work demonstrated their growing skills in perspective, texture, and storytelling. Showing how history and ecology inspire creativity.

Year 5

Cosmic Art & Exploding Books

A celestial wonderland! Parents walked under glowing constellation banners, flipped through 3D explosion books, and admired nebula watercolor paintings—all tying into their Space IPC topic. Blending science and art.

Year 6:

Art That Moves People

Year 6’s Moving People community focused artwork.

Year 6’s powerful activist linocut prints (raising funds for charity) and the whole-school Dot installation—where even parents added their marks—proved how art inspires change. With many visitors contributing their own dots to the growing exhibit!

A Night of Creativity & Community

The evening was more than just an exhibition—it was a celebration of student voice and artistic growth. The energy was electric—full of laughter, discovery, and pride. Most importantly, every student felt like a true artist, seeing their work celebrated by the community. Families left inspired, with some taking home student-made prints (supporting our outreach program with the local animal shelter and Promise Land School) and others simply cherishing the joy of creating together.

Behind the Scenes: A Labor of Love

For months, our dedicated art teacher Mrs. Waters poured her heart and soul into bringing this spectacular exhibition to life—planning installations, prepping materials, and carefully curating each exhibit. Weekends were spent building displays, late nights were devoted to perfecting lighting and layouts, and every detail—from the hanging constellations to the glowing underwater reef—was thoughtfully crafted to create a truly immersive experience. Countless hours went into organizing supplies, coordinating cross-curricular connections, and ensuring every year group’s work told its story beautifully. This exhibition wasn’t just assembled—it was lovingly constructed, piece by piece, to celebrate our students’ creativity in the grandest way possible. A heartfelt thank you to our art teacher, Mrs. Waters for turning this vision into a reality that left our community in awe!

A Special Message from the Art Teacher

A huge thank you to all the parents, teachers, and, most importantly, our incredible student artists for making this event so special. As their art teacher I am so proud of all the work the students put into each art piece. The creativity, passion, and hard work on display prove that art isn’t just what we make—it’s how we see the world! Seeing the joy on their faces and their excitement to share their learning with visitors and parents made all the planning and preparation worth it.

Working closely with the Junior classroom teachers to create cross-curricular connections has been a joy and I want to thank them for all their hard work in the classroom and their dedication to their students’ education. Thank you to the school leadership for allowing me the freedom to set up and create such a lovely event and thank you to the many teachers in seniors who also showed their support.

Finally, I would like to thank the parents for taking the time out of their day to attend the art show and for truly taking their time to enjoy the art show with their children. You made their day so special, and in turn made the teachers at our school feel seen and excited about sharing our student learning experiences.

I am excited to make the Junior Art Show an annual event and hope to see you all again next year!
