New Year letter from Mark Bridgeman

Dear MIS Community,

The festive season and winter holiday are well underway which provide us with an opportunity to reflect and celebrate the end of another year at Merchiston international school. So many milestones and achievements have defined 2024 and highlight a year filled with hard work, passion, and dedication—qualities that continue to drive us forward as a school committed to excellence.

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt thanks to all our community members: our students, their families, and our incredible team of educators, staff and board members. The commitment and support have been instrumental in our success this year, not only for MIS, but also for the Lighthouse International Education Group (LIEG). Key to this success have been the appointments at the LIEG of Mr. Steven Zhang as the CHRO/COO and Ms. Claudia Liu as the new Chief Principal.

This year, we have seen remarkable academic progress at MIS, highlighted by excellent summer exam results at IGCSE/A level,

As well as the success of our students in securing Oxbridge interviews and offers from the world's most prestigious universities. These achievements are a testament to the tireless efforts of our teaching staff and the dedication of our students to strive for personal excellence.

Our community has grown stronger and more united in our 7th year, creating an environment where students not only excel academically but also thrive personally.

The CIS Preparatory visit in September was a significant milestone, and the feedback we received has confirmed that we are on the right path towards becoming a recognised global leader as an authentic British International Boarding School.

We have also seen the successful launch of the Ivy Academy, led by Michael Shi, which marks an exciting new chapter for our school and its academic offerings.

I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the new leadership team developed at MIS leading us into 2025 including myself as Acting Head, Mr Ben Webster who has taken up the role of Head of Upper Seniors in addition to his role as Head of Well-being, Mrs Priscila Perdomo who is leading both the Junior schools in Longhua and Qianhai, Mr Daryl McGee who continues as Deputy Head of Juniors at Longhua and Data Manager and Susan Wu who joined the school as Head of Lower Seniors and also holds roles as Party Secretary and overseeing school operations.  Their leadership, vision, and commitment will be invaluable in shaping the future of MIS.

Now is also a great moment to celebrate the excellent work being done at our Qianhai campus.

With the support of Priscila and Claudia, the team, skilfully led by Mr. Michael (Mikey) James is working wonders in providing such high-quality learning experiences for their students.

Looking back, we have so much to be proud of. But more than anything, it is the love for education, the unwavering commitment to our students' success, and the warmth of our community that stand out. These core values will continue to guide us in the years ahead.
