端午节

Dragon Boat Festival

The clouds come, the rain falls, the dragon flies in the sky. The wind blows, the sky is wide, and the Dragon Boat Festival is around the corner. Why worry about the rainy season? There is always a time for joy in May. In a blink of an eye, it is already the Dragon Boat Festival.

The Boat Festival is one of the most important traditional festivals in China. It has many names such as the “Dragon Boat Festival” and the “Double Fifth Festival.”

In the "Qian Gua" of the "Yi", there is a saying that "the flying dragon is in the sky". It further interprets the Dragon Boat Festival as an auspicious day for "achieving success and receiving righteousness". On that day, we worship gods and ancestors, pray for good fortune, wear sachets, hang wormwood, and pass on the blessings of thousands of years. Later, there was also a saying commemorating the patriotic poet Qu Yuan. No matter what interpretation, the Dragon Boat Festival is always a traditional festival that embodies many beautiful and special expectations of the Chinese nation.

As the Dragon Boat Festival approaches, the Chinese Department of MIS has prepared a wonderful activity for teachers and students. Let's open this unique "bamboo slip" scroll.

Painting circular fans

Interpreting the specific meaning of the flower takes time and ingenuity, which may bother you for a while, but concentrating on drawing a round fan yourself can make you feel happy. China has had the custom of painting circular fans on May 5th since ancient times. In front of the stall painting circular fans, students wearing Tang and Han costumes enjoyed themselves by designing fans for themselves. After they finish painting the fan, they will pick it up and look at it for a long time, comparing it with each other and seeing if there is anything wrong. Some even decide to give their own hand-painted fans to their friends and relatives. "To promote virtue by stirring the breeze", it seems that after being infiltrated by Chinese culture, virtues can also be displayed behind a small fan.

Playing with “Zongzi”

In ancient times, "zongzi" was called "Jiaoshu", it was originally used to worship ancestors and gods. Zongzi is the must have for the Dragon Boat Festival. If there is no Zongzi on any day of the Dragon Boat Festival, it will feel like something is missing. Don't underestimate the small Zongzi. It has a history of more than 2000 years and is indispensable for the Dragon Boat Festival. Whether it is "folding Zongzi" or "fishing for Zongzi" games, it makes students feel a different kind of fun. With the crisp and happy sound of children, the thousand-year-old food culture of the Dragon Boat Festival gently opens to us. Each small "Zongzi" is a small seed planted in the heart of children's traditional culture.

Making sachet

Fragrance can appreciate, when you wear the sachet, someone walking beside you, it encompasses the Chinese feel and culture. It is also a traditional custom to wear a fragrant bag on the Dragon Boat Festival. At the sachet booth, the students concentrated on putting together their own exclusive sachets, pair it with colorful silk threads, pack Atractylodes, calamus, moxa leaves and other Chinese herbal medicines, and the Dragon Boat Festival sachets are ready. While talking about the history and culture of the sachet, the students wore the "skill sachet" which exuded a faint fragrance and symbolized peace and completeness on their bodies.

Making paper kite

Flying paper kites on the Dragon Boat Festival is called "releasing misfortunes". The Chinese place beautiful meanings in the paper kites, such as wish wealth, all the best and good luck, etc. When the kite flies high, it is also the time when life rises high. At the same time, the kite spreads high and soars into the sky, leaving all worries and illnesses behind, forming the highest realm of Zhuangzi's philosophy - freedom. At the paper kite booth, students carefully made their own paper kites and left their sincere blessings. Let these paper kites carry good wishes, soar up to the sky, and spread good wishes to the world.

Other activities

In addition to the above booth activities, there are also card games, dragon boat-themed bookmark design, and archery games. Taking advantage of the pleasant scenery and good performances, students enjoyed the traditional activities of the Dragon Boat Festival and felt the enduring charm of the traditional festival.

Kylin performance and Dragon Boat Race

Auspicious beasts move in the sky, Qi flows through the rainbow, good fortune is imminent, goods are abundant, weather is smooth, and the grain is abundant. The students and teachers from Longhua No. 3 Experimental School brought us a magnificent performance of the Kylin. Then came the dragon boat race, where MIS students competed on land to experience the power and spirit of the totems of the Kylin and the dragon.

The Dragon Boat Festival carries too many unique beautiful things for the Chinese nation, such as the belief in the dragon, the acceptance of blessings, and the pursuit of a better life. All of these are condensed in this unique festival. While leading international education, MIS attaches great importance to the inheritance and development of traditional Chinese culture. " Diving into night with wind and moistening, everything with thinnish sound ", we hope that this cultural heritage can be like a spring breeze and rain and be spread into the hearts of every MIS student.

On the occasion of this traditional festival, MIS wishes you all a happy Dragon Boat Festival.

端午节

Dragon Boat Festival
