Against the backdrop of accelerated educational integration in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the highly anticipated DSE Programme Launch Ceremony of Shenzhen Merchiston Castle School (MIS) was held on July 2.

ELCHK Yuen Long Lutheran Secondary School, a benchmark institution in Hong Kong with a 98% local university admission for three consecutive years, attended the ceremony as MIS's sister school. Principal Wan Ho-Yin led a delegation of key faculty members, including the Academic Vice Principal, Curriculum Development Director, and Career Guidance Counsellors. Leveraging its authentic British international education heritage and eight years of outstanding achievements—such as the 26 G5 university offers received by the 2025 A-Level graduates, including Cambridge and Imperial College London—MIS's DSE Programme is set to reach new heights with the academic support from Yuen Long Lutheran Secondary School. The launch ceremony featured a roundtable discussion where both schools delved into curriculum development and academic support systems, sparking widespread interest in the Greater Bay Area’s education community.

It was also announced that Wendy Yuan, former Executive Director of the Shenzhen Bay Laboratory Science Education Center, has officially assumed the role of National Head of School at MIS.

To overcome the challenges posed by the DSE notoriously difficult" English paper, the Bauhinia Academic curriculum leverages MIS's immersive English-language environment to achieve groundbreaking results. Historical data shows that students in full English-taught environments typically improve their English grades by 1 to 2 levels compared to those in traditional schools.

During the roundtable discussion, Principal Wan Ho-Yin emphasized that the collaboration not only brings 13 years of DSE teaching expertise from Yuen Long Lutheran Secondary School but also embodies a shared mission to nurture talent for the Greater Bay Area. The school will provide three core supports to MIS's DSE Programme: A Teacher Partnership Programme, dispatching professional teams for joint teaching and research; The Principal’s Recommendation Scheme, helping MIS establish a fast-track JUPAS; A summer intensive training camp for students predicted to achieve 25+ points across 5 DSE subjects, alongside professional coaching for international competitions like the RoboCup.

As a "super mom" who sent her two daughters to Harvard and MIT, National Wendy Yuan shared her educational philosophy at the event and introduced a dual-core model integrating technology and humanities. By using AI-driven tracking to create personalized student growth profiles and launching the "AI and Love" International Invitational Competition, she encourages students to apply technology to address real-world challenges. "Education should ignite potential, not just force-feeding knowledge," she stated.

Looking ahead, MIS's DSE Programme will deeply integrate Greater Bay Area characteristics, embedding various education and intangible cultural heritage practices into the  subject. It will also offer articulation courses explaining the pathways from Hong Kong associate degrees, and launch the Global Village 2.0 Initiative in 2025, partnering with 12 sister schools worldwide for cross-cultural research projects.
