This Labour Day holiday, six students from MIS who successfully passed the qualifying round of the International Science Bee Competition stepped onto the dazzling stage of the National Finals & All-Star Science Carnival, driven by their passion for science and a spirit of exploration.

The All-Star Science Carnival is a highly selective, world-class academic event that brings together outstanding winners from the qualifying rounds in China of four major international science competitions: the National Science League (NSL), the International Science Bee, the You Be The Chemist (YBTC) challenge, and the Junior Physics Challenge (JPC) from UK. This is not only a premier science gathering but also a true feast of knowledge. Throughout the event, our students engaged in a series of interactive, educational, and entertaining activities designed to sharpen their innovative thinking and problem-solving skills. Every part of the experience aims to ignite children's curiosity and desire to explore, encouraging them to bravely take on the unknown and constantly push beyond their limits.

The competition is a team-based challenge with four members per team, offered in both Chinese and English divisions. Representing our school in the English division were Emilia and Johnny from Year 4, along with Jefferson and Lucas from Year 5. Joining the Chinese division were Olivia from Year 5 and Jerry from Year 6, who partnered with two students from another school. Together, they participated in this grand science event alongside nearly 500 contestants from across China, as well as international participants from South Korea, Thailand, and Myanmar.

What's more, before leaving for Shanghai, our six participants – under the guidance of their competition coordinator – not only reviewed and prepared for the tests, but also carefully put together all the materials needed for the "Science Bazaar" session based on the themes announced by the organizers. The competition coordinator thoughtfully brought along additional craft supplies to help the students present their science boards even more effectively, while also avoiding a last-minute rush due to limited on-site preparation time.

Even more impressively, the students in the English division designed their own team T-shirts and badge patterns. With strong support from their parents, they headed to the competition venue in high spirits, equipped with their unique custom-made gear.

Reviews & Quotes

Emilia (Year 4, English Division)

I really liked the Science Bazaar and the Team Show. The pattern on our team uniform was designed by us. I'm sure our Science board will be even better next year. The questions in the Guts round were quite hard, but I believe we'll do better next year.

Johnny (Year 4, English Division)

I saw the robot dog performance. It could do somersaults, stand up, and follow commands. It was amazing!

Jefferson (Year 5, English Division)

The robot dog at the event really left an impression on me. Next time, we'll try our best to finish building the mechanical device in the mini challenge. Oh, and the lunch prepared by the organizers was pretty good. I really liked it.

Lucas (Year 5, English Division)

I think I did well in the individual competition this time. Next year, I'm going for the gold medal!

Olivia (Year 5, Chinese Division)

We didn't finish building the robotic arm in the mini challenge this year. That's a bit disappointing, but we'll definitely get it done next year.

Jerry (Year 6, Chinese Division)

I really enjoyed this science carnival. I was the flag bearer for the opening ceremony, waving our school flag. I was nervous, but mostly proud. I'll remember this experience forever!

Ms. Rose Wang (Competition Coordinator)

This competition trip was a rewarding and unforgettable experience. Our students not only broadened their horizons, but they also truly stepped out of the classroom and onto a bigger stage — bravely challenging themselves and pushing their limits. We saw the joy on their faces when they achieved good results, and we also witnessed their calmness and resilience when facing strong competitors. Of course, we clearly recognized the gap between us and the outstanding teams from across the country — this is both motivation and direction for us. Next, we will carefully review what we've learned, continue to train steadily, and aim to reach a new level next year. We are so proud of the kids, and we look forward to their next shining moment!
